Magic Box Productions Site gets a new look!

If you haven't seen the new Magic Box Productions website be sure to check it out. It's still a work in progress, but it's really starting to take shape. The short text on the front page about magic theory is great so be sure to take a moment to read it.

The True Secret of Magic

Ascanio once said, "The true secret to our miracles is creating a truly magical atmosphere."

He couldn't be more right. How else can you transport someone or convince them to suspend their disbelief even if just for a moment. More on this later.

Awesome free magic effect...

"Hickman's Psychedelic Card Engine" is a great effect . It has been featured in both Magic Magazine and Joshua Jay's hit book "Magic: The Complete Course". Entertainment: Interest held by emotion resulting in a positive experience.

Awe: A feeling of amazement.

Wonder: Awe created by the seemingly inexplicable.

Magic: Entertainment by wonder.

It’s that simple.

Awe without mystery is spectacle… not magic. For this reason very few sword basket routines can be considered magic. “Wait what!? You mean that my giant wicker basket with those bright shiny blades and red flames that shoot out of lid isn’t magic? People are amazed by that! You can hear it in their applause!”

Well a lot of work went into playing Carmina Burana and dancing around in your spandex suit. Not to mention the cost of all that flash powder and shiny sword polish. And then there is that woman who can contort around all those blades in that giant basket…

Awe will entertain. It will create that feeling of astonishment within those that witness it. But alone, it is not magic.
